Toonzaal en werkplaats zijn open na afspraak. Zo maken we exclusief voor u tijd vrij en kan u ongestoord de piano’s beluisteren en uittesten.

Ortwin Moreau (°1976) werkte van 1997 tot 2000 bij een gerenommeerde pianozaak in Antwerpen en kreeg daar zijn opleiding tot pianostemmer en technicus. Om zijn kennis en vakmanschap verder aan te scherpen, bezocht hij pianobouwers in Europa zoals Fazioli, Steinway & Sons, C. Bechstein, Blüthner, Bösendorfer, Sauter, Kemble – Yamaha en Steingraeber. Vaak combineerde hij zijn bezoeken met stages en workshops. Ook bij Louis Renner GmbH, die mechaniekonderdelen levert voor de branche, heeft hij enkele cursussen gevolgd. 

De laatste jaren legt hij zich toe op het onderhoud en optimaliseren van de mechanieken van vleugelpiano’s, en op het klaarmaken van vleugelpiano's voor concerten en opnames. Sinds 2015 is Moreau Pianoservice exclusief verantwoordelijk voor het stemmen en het onderhoud van de Steinway & Sons concertvleugels in deSingel, Antwerpen. Ook werkt Ortwin Moreau regelmatig bij pianobouwer Fazioli waar hij mee de eindafwerking van de vleugelpiano's verzorgt. Voor Fazioli piano's doet hij ook concertservice, zoals bijvoorbeeld voor de succesvolle editie 2021 en 2025 van de Chopin pianowedstrijd in Warschau. Telkens speelde de eerste prijswinnaar op een Fazioli F278 vleugelpiano. Hij ondersteunt ook Fazioli dealer Quatre Mains Klaviercentrum voor het technisch onderhoud van de Fazioli vleugelpiano's.

In 2023 opende in Antwerpen centrum een volledig nieuwe werkplaats, gebouwd voor onderhoud en herstellingen aan vleugelpiano's en de verkoop van premium tweedehands vleugelpiano’s. Ortwin Moreau runt de zaak samen met zijn vrouw. Zij studeerde af in de Kunstwetenschappen en Musicologie aan de UGent. Regelmatig is er op projectbasis samenwerking met collega’s.

Expertise and Concert Service

Steinway & Sons: Since 2015, Moreau has been exclusively responsible for tuning and maintaining the Steinway & Sons concert grand pianos at deSingel, a major international arts center in Antwerp.

Fazioli Pianoforti: He frequently collaborates with the renowned Italian piano builder Fazioli. Moreau assists with the final finishing of their grand pianos and provides concert services for them.

International Chopin Piano Competition: Moreau famously provided concert service for the Fazioli F278 grand piano during the prestigious Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in both 2021 and 2025. Notably, the first-prize winners of both of those editions (Bruce Liu in 2021 and Eric Lu in 2025) chose to play on the Fazioli piano he maintained.

Background and Business

Moreau began his career working at a well-known piano shop in Antwerp between 1997 and 2000, where he received his training. Over the years, he refined his craft by visiting the factories of top European piano makers—including Steinway & Sons, Fazioli, C. Bechstein, Bösendorfer, and Blüthner—to participate in internships and workshops.

In 2023, he opened a completely new workshop in the center of Antwerp, designed specifically for the maintenance, repair, and sale of premium second-hand grand pianos.

"The Tuners" Documentary

Moreau is also featured as one of the main subjects in the documentary short film *"The Tuners"* (directed by Paweł Chorzępa). The film follows three master piano technicians (representing Steinway, Shigeru Kawai, and Fazioli) as they work behind the scenes during the 2021 Chopin Piano Competition, showcasing the intense pressure and dedication required to prepare instruments for elite pianists.
